Our Story

The cultural center existed side by side with the Ukrainian American Citizens Club (est. 1928) in Watervliet, NY until 2021 when the citizens club permanently folded into the cultural center.  The cultural center and its volunteer board of directors aim to promote Ukrainian culture and language through educational events and access to Ukrainian sources to bridge 

Ukrainian and American cultures.

Major Events of the Ukrainian American Citizens Club until its 50 Anniversary

1928        Organized at Forth Avenue and 23rd Street

1929        Incorporated under laws of New York State

1930        Building acquired at Fifth Ave./25th Street

1931         Ladies Auxiliary Club formed

1932        Major addition to original building

1950        Major modernization of interior of building

1970        Addition of new kitchen and freight elevator

In 2013, The Ukrainian-American Cultural Center received an aid of a bequest from Warren and Pauline Bruggeman's estate.

In 2020 a full renovation on the first floor took place

In 2021 Ukrainian-American Cultural Center and Citizen Club officially merged

In 2023 a hall near the bar was updated

In 2025 a bar itself was completely renovated

Board of directors and cultural center members work diligently to keep community together, involve young members and continue great work initiated by the previous generations of Ukrainian community.

We can only stay a public charity with a public and financial interest from people like you.  Becoming a member, making donations, and participating in fundraisers is how we raise money to help organizations and the community around us.
